Real Strategy

Without some awareness of the whole, there can be no strategy. Without strategy there is only drift.
— Thomas Friedman

Strategy has two vital parts - formulation and implementation. The majority of enterprises concentrate solely on formulation and develop full-colour, pretty and pointless strategy. A strategy that ignores implementation simply isn't a strategy.

Equally strategy is not a check-box exercise, it is a mechanism to allow your enterprise to survive and provide benefits for your stakeholders. It is the quality of your thinking that counts not the font you choose.

It doesn't matter whether you are a private business, a public sector organisation or a not-for-profit, strategy helps answer three vital questions

  1. What are we trying to achieve?

  2. Who is it for?

  3. Why should we be allowed to survive? Your enterprise isn't owed an existence.

The resulting strategy should be simple and absolutely embraced by your staff. If it isn't, start again, you don't yet have a strategy.

For many enterprises it is five minutes to midnight and a pumpkin or a coach awaits. My role is to help make sure you ordered a coach!

See how I can help you and your organisation aim to be in the attractive industries of the future.

The people who I admire, and might call strategists, are interested in the physical reality - not just coming up with the best plan.
